Your level of discipline determines your level of success or the final destination you end up in.
This truth became evident to me after watching two videos earlier today. One was about LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony. If you know anything about basketball, you’ll know that Carmelo Anthony had more raw talent than LeBron James. Yet, LeBron James is now recognized as one of the greatest basketball players playing today. The key to his success? Discipline.
LeBron James is a highly disciplined individual, and this discipline has made him the household name he is today. A few hours later, I came across another video about Ravel Morrison, a soccer player who was touted to be one of the best. Unfortunately, despite his raw talent, he never reached his potential. The difference between being one of the best in the world and being a forgotten name, despite possessing prime raw skill, is discipline.
Discipline is the only differentiator between levels of success. It determines your destination. Conversely, a lack of discipline will also determine the lack of a destination. What’s crucial about discipline is the decision to say “NO.” That’s where many of us struggle. The etymology of the word “decide” means to “cut off,” so when we decide to commit to something, we’re literally cutting off all other options.
Being disciplined means deciding to say no just simply because it’s the disciplined thing to do.
Imagine if we based more of our actions on discipline. How much more focused, productive, and fruitful would our days and lives be?
So, as we start each day, let’s remember to be disciplined. Let’s remember to say no, just because it’s the disciplined response to do.
Ashe.
