Five Strategies to Become Mission Impossible
How Tips from the Navy Seals Can Be Implemented into our Every Day Lives
In this article, we will discuss five strategies that Navy Seals implement into their civilian lives from their time in the field and why these strategies can help us overcome any obstacle we may face. Those strategies are:
Breathing
Thinking Positive
Visualization
Focus on what’s in front
Remember the Why
Recently, I’ve become a huge Ethan Hunt fan. For those unfamiliar, Ethan Hunt is the character Tom Cruise plays in the Mission Impossible Franchise. Ethan’s a secret agent who works for the organization known as the IMF, and they specialize in those missions that aren’t just ordinary, nor are they simply hard; these are known as “impossible missions.”
And what I appreciate from the franchise and the archetype of Ethan Hunt is that something always goes wrong within each mission. It’s not just a change in plan, but the entire mission has been jeopardized. The world is about to be destroyed, yet, somehow, some way, Ethan finds a way to save the day, and he does this so many times by simply relying on luck. So much so that he’s been titled “The Living Manifestation Of Destiny.”
We all are the living manifestations of destiny, and here at Unorthodoxy, we’ve discussed at great lengths how luck is a part of nature that we can use daily to complete our missions. When things go wrong, or shit hits the fan, this is a “Mission Impossible.” However, “should you choose to accept your mission,” you can’t stop; you must keep going. So, how do you turn this tragedy into something good?
Seeing that Ethan is a “secret agent,” I asked AI, or Advanced Computing as I like to call it (intelligence isn’t artificial) if there were any strategies that top military personnel take from their time in the field that they apply in their civilian life. With some research, we found out some of the top strategies used by personnel in their civilian life, and that is what this article is about. So, as you go throughout your day, whether personal or work-related when life goes unplanned, remember these strategies so you too can “complete your mission.”
Five Tips Navy Seals Use for Staying Sharp!
Box breathing1:
This is a simple but effective method of controlling your breathing and calming your mind.
You inhale slowly for four or five seconds, hold your breath for the same amount of time, exhale slowly through your nose for another four or five seconds, and repeat the cycle.
This lowers your stress hormones, sharpens your focus, and deepens your concentration.
Breathing is a fundamental aspect of our day that we overlook. If we look more into it, it’s an incredibly spiritual aspect. It calms our bodily vessels and brings them under control so we can weather the storms that life throws at us.

This is a way of feeding your courage and starving your fear.
You use affirmations and positive statements to boost your confidence and motivation. You avoid negative thoughts that can degrade your performance and weaken your resolve.
You focus on the positive aspects of the situation and the desired outcome.
Depression, for example, is a condition that feeds on itself. It grows larger and larger the more energy we give it. So does anxiety and many others. That’s why it’s vital to first breathe, get our body under control, and then begin to positively think so we can start to come up with solutions to the problem.

This is a powerful tool for enhancing your performance and achieving your goals.
You imagine yourself in the scenario you want to succeed in, and you practice it in your mind with perfect form and execution.
You see yourself overcoming obstacles, solving problems, and accomplishing the task. You also visualize the rewards and benefits of your success.
We’ve talked many times here at Unorthodoxy about the power of visualization, and there’s no surprise why the Navy Seals use it; it works. Once the body is under control with the breath, and we’ve replaced the negative self-talk with positive ones, we can begin to visualize what that outcome looks like.

Front-sight focus1:
This is a technique for prioritizing and concentrating on the most important thing at hand.
You focus on the front sight of your weapon, not the target or the distractions around you.
You narrow your attention to the immediate threat or challenge, and you ignore everything else that is irrelevant or out of your control.
In our current society, this is a challenge for our generation like no other. Distraction is a billion-dollar industry, and we are its users every day. Fortunately, all we need to do is simply “put our tool in our hands.” By doing this and focusing with our eyes on our tool, we can work towards the goal we’ve visualized us attaining.

A “Why” or purpose2:
This is a reason or a mission that drives you to do what you do.
You have a clear and compelling vision of what you want to achieve and why it matters to you.
You align your actions with your values and principles. You remind yourself of your purpose when things get tough or when you feel like giving up.
Why are you living? Why are you working? If the answer to this is simply to make ends meet, that is not the right answer. As mentioned earlier, every one of us is a manifestation of destiny, and we have a divine path in our life. The sooner we realize this path, the sooner we can make every step we take align with this greater purpose.

There you have it. Five steps that we can take daily to complete the missions that life throws at us. We may not realize it now, but we all chose to be here, and we’ve been blessed with the Divine to create here on this earth. The sooner we find our mission and begin to live our mission, the more every day becomes an opportunity to do the impossible.
