Spiritual Resistance Leads to Physical Dilemmas
Exploring the Inner Struggle and Not Resolving Them
Your mental world is your spiritual world, and it is here that the resistance occurs.
In my article on living your best life, inspired by an
video, I delve into the concept of resistance. This term refers to the internal barriers, often rooted in our thoughts and beliefs, that hinder our personal growth and fulfillment. As stated in the video and article, this resistance is the primary reason why we do not accomplish goals, dreams, and more — and over 90% of the time, it is entirely mental.
The idea behind this article is that if we do not learn, study, and grow more in the things of the spiritual, our life will be reflective of this spiritual resistance - and this would be a life not lived to its fullest. Who would purposely want to do that?
When I use the term spiritual, I refer to all things, not physical or material. I discuss and lay the groundwork in my article, “A Spiritual Perspective to Reality Part One.” From your thoughts to your emotions, to your ideas and imaginations, all of these are considered spiritual in nature. The quote: “Life is 10% of what happens to you and 90% of how you react,” describes this perfectly.
10% is what has physically happened to you: you’ve lost your job, you’ve lost your income, etc. These are physical things; the spiritual things are how you react to them. Are you optimistic or pessimistic?
In this example, seeing this job loss as a blessing or a travesty can either lead to the following physical event: a better-paying successful venture or fear-trapped decisions that lead one down to more negative outcomes (e.g., not getting another job). Your mental world is your spiritual world, and it is here that the resistance occurs.
In my podcast “Help, I Can’t Get Off My Phone,” I discuss brain concepts such as DMN, neural inertia, and others. These concepts appear to be physical and material (e.g., chemicals and hormones), but I’d like to present a spiritual perspective here.
A couple of years back, I heard Dr. Cowan giving a lecture, and he commented along the lines of:
“Science tells us that if someone throws a ball at us, it takes 0.0000 milliseconds for our brain to compute that, and then another 0.00000 milliseconds for the nerves to fire, and then another 0.0000 milliseconds for the muscles to move to catch the ball.
Now, has anyone ever measured these milliseconds?”
I’m paraphrasing and going off memory Dr. Cowan’s statement, but the question that comes from this line of reasoning is:
how do we know the body is moving in milliseconds and trillionths of a second and any of that?
how do we know what dopamine levels are going through our bodies at these high levels?
PS: keep in mind that serotonin is the chemical they say needs to improve for depression, even though we cannot measure serotonin levels.
So what if instead of the brain processing the ball coming at 0.0000 milliseconds — which then triggers neurons to fire and triggers the muscle to catch the ball — what if there is a connection between our brain that sees the ball coming and instantaneously moves to catch the ball? What if in the spiritual world, as we’re directing our “attentional control” - or paying attention - to the person throwing the ball, our instincts, or intuition, can see where the ball is going and prepare to catch it?
What if an overlaying of the spiritual world (paying attention) leads to us catching this ball in our physical world — which in this context refers to the external, tangible aspects of our life?
Again, this is entirely theoretical, but the idea here is that if we focus on these spiritual aspects of reality, such as our thoughts, feelings, and reactions to events, and we know how they affect our bodies (dopamine loops, cognitive friction, etc.), we’re more able to control our physical actions (i.e., become more focused and attentive) and lead to success that we want to achieve (i.e., catching the ball).
What we’re talking about here is spiritual chemistry, or even physics of the mental plane, i.e., metaphysical reality or alchemy. If this is a more accurate sense of reality, why are we not living as such?
Well, for one, we’ve never been told about a reality like this or even how our brain operates. As stated in the podcast, only neuroscientists know concepts like neural inertia, cognitive thinking, and much more, which happens to be 0.0001% of the population. You can probably argue that the 0.0001% that know how the brain works are actually behind-the-scenes tinkering and controlling how society moves. Think Edward Bernays and propaganda.
As the adage says, “You can’t expect your oppressors to educate you towards your liberation.” Instead of the reality of the world, we’ve been taught ideas and concepts that uphold material, physical reality (e.g., dinosaurs, evolution, and more—check out my book for more information).
This rationale is why I focus so much on how we think, how our brain works, and so much more because, simply, this mental and spiritual space is 90% of where reality truly operates. And here is where the resistance occurs.
Resistance, such as laziness, ignorance, childlike thinking, and many more, occurs in this spiritual world. For instance, procrastination can be a form of spiritual resistance, as it hinders our progress and keeps us from achieving our goals. Fortunately, as many spiritual practices have told us, this is the great Revelation. This era is the opportunity and timeframe for humankind to awaken from their slumber and ask themselves, just what exactly am I doing here? What is my purpose here?
And as we begin to ask more questions and go more within, we’ll find ourselves encountering resistance of all kinds. From self-doubt to self-defeating thoughts to many more, we’ll find it hard to push on. Fortunately, once we realize that these thoughts, feelings, and energies have a purpose, when we recognize that this is an opportunity to develop weapons against the resistance, like faith, courage, and bravery, we develop the ancient insight known as Gnosis to where you spiritually understand what’s occurring and two, you obtain the Peace of God, also known as the Peace that surpasses all understanding.
It is crucial that we take the initiative to look inward and confront our spiritual resistance. This self-reflection is the key to ascending to higher ground. By doing so, we will witness a transformation in our physical world. However, if we neglect this crucial step, the world’s deterioration will continue, as we have failed to address the opposition effectively.

Thanks for the inspiration! I agree; resistance (or the theory of cognitive dissonance) makes a lot of sense when you have two opposing views and it causes inaction. Stoics would tell us to understand the rationale behind it, what we can control and can’t control, so we can get through it. Epictetus was born a slave, and his master broke his leg, so he was lame, but he failed to let it conquer him, and grew from it, like shipwrecked Zeno. Eventually, he gained freedom (in his late 30s or so) and started a school on Stoic philosophy, influencing leaders like Marcus Aurelias (a real philosopher king).
Conservatives (and Americans collectively) are facing cognitive dissonance now; the Constitution failed to restrain government and here we are – soviet style lawfare is going down right this minute. What do we do about it? Well, first thing we do is acknowledge that the Constitution, as prescient as it was, has failed to restrain the government, exactly like the “Anti-Federalists” warned us – a central government will grow beyond control. How about this solution: Dismantle the federal government (carefully, of course) and revise a newly crafted Articles of the Confederation?
And how much unhealed trauma is leftover from past lives that is so deeply embedded. Love Stoic philosophy!
